Do you live in Adel? Did you know that David Wilson Homes plan to build 177 homes on the fields opposite the parish church on Church Lane. This is in addition to their existing site adjacent to Centurion Fields where they are building 45 homes.
This area is full of historical significance, Adel Church was built circa 1150 by monks from York and is one of the most complete of Norman churches. In addition, beneath the soil of Adel are the some of the most extensive and important Roman remains in West Yorkshire. It is likely that this is the Roman town of Cambodunum (as recorded in the Antonine Itinerary, a sort of 3rd century Roman road atlas). The first description was given in 1702 by Ralph Thoresby, the Leeds historian.
David Wilson Homes (DWH) and Hallam Land, who own the site opposite the Church, recently held an event in The Stables, Back Church Lane to tell the people of Adel about their plans. Although the meeting was well attended the developers only gave one weeks’ notice of the event and many residents were either not aware of the session or were unable to go along. In order to ensure as many people as possible get an opportunity to learn more about the developers plans, DWH and Hallam Land will be attending the next meeting of the Adel Association. Leeds City Council planners and highways officers have also been invited and there will be the opportunity to bring any comments that you may have to the attention of the developers, planners or highways officers.
