Leeds is especially well provided with green spaces.
And here in Adel and Wharfedale we’re very lucky to have one of them – Golden Acre Park.

You may remember that last year Golden Acre won the prestigious Green Flag Award.
You may also remember that we reported a year or so ago on Leeds Council’s plans to improve facilities there, with a new conservatory.
Well if you’ve recently visited, you’ll have noticed that work has now started on the refurbishment of the popular visitor café.

There’s a revamp going on. The new conservatory will be added to the upper level of the existing Bakery Café. The scheme is overseen by Leeds City Council’s parks and countryside department, and includes funding of over £100,000 being provided from a sponsorship agreement with local company Franklin Windows Ltd. Support is also being provided by Mone Bros Ltd, who are supplying all the building materials for the conservatory.

When the conservatory is finished it will offer seating on the upper patio level of the café for 40 extra people. It will then be possible for 86 people to be catered for indoors.

The project also includes proposals for a new ‘Changing Places’ toilet extension, which will be suitable for people with disabilities and provide a baby changing space. This has been funded by £45,000 from the council’s adult social care service, with an additional £28,000 being committed by the council for materials and other costs.

The refurbishment is expected to last 10 weeks. During that time the café or kiosk will remain open to the public but will offer a restricted service.
But it should be up and running in time for the return of the good weather in spring. So we’ll all be able to enjoy it then.
