14 wards were contested in yesterday’s by elections around the UK. Labour had a great night of results:
- Skerton West (Lancs) – Labour hold with 24.5 point increase
- Fortissat (N Lanarkshire) – Labour gain from Tories with 2 point increase
- Ely South (East Cambs) – Lib Dem gain from Tories, Labour up 6.5 points
- Eye, Thorney & Newborough (Peterborough) – Tories hold, Labour up 15.2 points
- Cardonald (Glasgow) – Labour hold, up 10.1 points
- South Norwood (Croydon) – Labour hold, up 7.9 points
- St John (Suffolk) – Labour hold, up 5.3 points
- Sudbury South (Babergh) – Labour gain from Tories with 16.3 point increase
- Hednesford Green Heath (Cannock Chase) – Labour gain from Tories with 11.1 point increase
- Hednesford South (Cannock Chase) – Green gain from Tories, Labour down 13.2 points
- Golden Valley South (Herefordshire) – Indie gain from Tories, Labour up 9.6 points
- Ouse Valley & Ringmer (Lewes) – Green gain from Tories, Labour down 4.4 points
- Shrub End (Colchester) – Tories gain from Lib Dems, Labour up 20.5 points
- Hednesford & Rawnsley (Staffs) – Tories hold, Labour up 4.2 points
Breaking that down we can see that Labour’s vote share increased in 12 of the 14 wards contested; winning in 7 wards, holding all previous seats held and taking 3 seats from the Tories.
